Artist's statement:
My paintings begin with observations of the world around me, which I rework through my own perception by altering light, colour, and form. Working mainly from my own photographs, I approach these images through a collage-like process until they become compositions that move between the recognisable and the abstract. I work primarily with acrylic and oil on canvas, sometimes combined with other textures to introduce another visual dimension. Beneath their carefully arranged surfaces, an emotional quality emerges that can be experienced more easily than explained.
