Dragana Pavlovska

Dragana Pavlovska was born in 1996 in Vinica, North Macedonia. Her creative practice focuses primarily on narrative figurative painting at the border between the realistic and the fantastical, where the image becomes a basis for the exploration of the human condition. In 2020 she graduated from the Department of Painting at the National Academy of Art, Sofia in the class of Professor Andrey Daniel. She currently lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria.

My practice is pictorial and narrative, staging the inconsistencies, contradictions, and moral instability of human experience via the language of magical realism. The works are often large-scale, with detailed
imagery composed of scenes, symbols, and situations, developed through a slow, ritualistic process. Trusting that sensory impact can reach beyond cognition compels me to expose archetypal structures locked in confoundment, wherever they emerge. I draw from natural phenomena, myth, folklore, personal, historical, and contemporary events, working with forces that transpose their contrasts or collapse within themselves. I make art not to ask, nor to offer solutions but to merely show.
